Skybox Five

Five in a box - Miller Park Brewers lose it 6-0 to Pittsburgh Gary, Shirley, Neil, John & Pat

Photo is from Tuesday nights game at Miller Park 8/30/05

(I don't know where that date of 2005/01/20 is coming from...apparently I need to reset something! Any ideas where to correct that are welcome!) As of Sept. 7th, Tim showed me how to adjust that automatic dating in my camera setting so that this 8/30/05 date would have appeared instead of 2005/01/20. ...another lesson learned!

Additional 3rd Ward Tour Notes

3rd Ward 081 Originally uploaded by Gadder.

Saturday, August 20, 2005

On Saturday, I gave the Historic 3rd Ward Tour to a young couple from Chicago. They were in town for Irish Fest and stayed overnight so they were looking for something to do in the afternoon and located information about the HMI walking tours on the internet. It was fun to give them the tour because they did not know that much about Milwaukee so everything I told them was new to them. They let me know they enjoyed the tour and seemed to appreciate all they learned about it that afternoon. (Am I allowed to accept tips?) After the tour concluded I decided to stop in at SAUCE for a beer and to learn a little more about the Coffee Roasting Factory since I always thought the tour ended a little flat. It was then that I learned about the roasting equipment still being in the building. Also, I then realized that the tour begins with a Messmer designed building and ends with a Messmer building!

I spent the next hour visiting many of the businesses and dropping off the remaining tour brochures at about eight of the area businesses. Craig Stone at ARTASIA said they are the ones who purchased the Isabella Ryder Building down the block and will be moving ARTASIA into that building which they are restoring. Also, PICTURE PERFECT, is moving from Broadway to the Phoenix Hosiery Co. Plant #6 at 320 Buffalo in the next few weeks.

Profile Photo Update

Friday, August 19, 2005

Neil and I went to Turner Hall for this week's Fish Fry. We had some Water Street Brewery brews to go with our meal. That was good fish; good brews and fast service. We went over to Neil's to go on line and book our tickets for Orlando and the baby watch! BTW the color of text is in honor of Irish Fest this weekend!

Lake Drive Mansions Tour Notes

Thursday, August 18, 2005 Rough and stormy weather tonight, but got in a tour of the Lake Drive Mansions long before any rains came. Mary Zarse of Historic Milwaukee, Inc. took the group out and she did a fine job. A stroke of good luck got us an invitation to come on to the Robert Uihlein Mansion grounds so that was nice to see that beautiful house from close up instead of just walking by on Lake Drive. The present owners invited the group to come and join them on the terrace overlooking the lake where they were grilling out and entertaining a small group of guests. That was certainly unexpected. A little further north on Lake Drive Mary was showing us the Stanley Stone Mansion from the street when the present owner came out to greet us and invited us inside to see the interior of that 1912 Mansion that the founder of the Boston Store, Stanley Stone, had built in the French Provincial Style. That was a real treat and again very unexpected. Got home before the rain even started. In the morning I found some house insulation in the yard that apparently fell out of the sky. They were reporting on the radio that material that became airborne after a tornado hit Stoughton had been falling out of the sky over a very large area.

Friday, August 12, 2005 Went to Thunder Bay Grill for a Fish Fry with Roland M. tonight and went over to his place to give him a few pointers on using his e-mail account! Right...like I should be giving anyone pointers! Anyway I think I just might have helped him! We'll see if he sends me anything in the next couple of days. When I got home I notice this sunflower in the headlights...hmmm! Must have accidentally planted a sunflower in the pot with the petunias! I thought that one petunia looked kinda tall!!

What was I thinking?? I called this the Esser Mansion, but of course it's the Kunzelmann Mansion. I don't even know where Billy Esser lived! Anyway, this is the Albert P. Kunzelmann House and it looks good although it has had many owners and residents.
