Additional 3rd Ward Tour Notes
3rd Ward 081

On Saturday, I gave the Historic 3rd Ward Tour to a young couple from Chicago. They were in town for Irish Fest and stayed overnight so they were looking for something to do in the afternoon and located information about the HMI walking tours on the internet. It was fun to give them the tour because they did not know that much about Milwaukee so everything I told them was new to them. They let me know they enjoyed the tour and seemed to appreciate all they learned about it that afternoon. (Am I allowed to accept tips?) After the tour concluded I decided to stop in at SAUCE for a beer and to learn a little more about the Coffee Roasting Factory since I always thought the tour ended a little flat. It was then that I learned about the roasting equipment still being in the building. Also, I then realized that the tour begins with a Messmer designed building and ends with a Messmer building!
I spent the next hour visiting many of the businesses and dropping off the remaining tour brochures at about eight of the area businesses. Craig Stone at ARTASIA said they are the ones who purchased the Isabella Ryder Building down the block and will be moving ARTASIA into that building which they are restoring. Also, PICTURE PERFECT, is moving from Broadway to the Phoenix Hosiery Co. Plant #6 at 320 Buffalo in the next few weeks.
